Risks of Pressure Washing
What You Need to Know
June is National Safety Month. It’s the 25th anniversary of this National Safety Council (NSC) initiative, which originally focused on safety in the workplace. Now, it is used to recognize and prioritize safe practices in all areas of life, from the “workplace to anyplace.” At JDog Carpet Cleaning & Floor Care, we recognize the risks that come when people try to DIY their own cleaning methods. From using dangerous chemicals to using tools without training or research, there are, unfortunately, many ways bodily harm may occur with the best of cleaning intentions. Today, we’re taking a look at the risks of pressure washing and safer, alternative options.
Risks of Pressure Washing
Pressure washing uses a strong stream of water to clean. Like power washing, it can be dangerous for an untrained person to do on their own. Pressure washers typically put out 2,000 to 3,200 (pound-force square inch). To put it in perspective, your faucet is probably about 40 to 80 psi. When executed improperly, pressure washing comes with great risk:
- Bodily harm: This powerful spray can be hazardous to you, your family, and pets when misdirected. It can even be strong enough to damage skin upon contact! The most common injuries include lacerations, bruises, punctures, and eye injuries, some of which require medical attention.
- Damage to property: Using a pressure washer incorrectly can damage siding, wood, walkways, paint, plants, decorations, and more.
Pressure Washing Alternatives
- Soft Washing: This type of pressure washing is completely different than the other two. Rather than manually cleaning with a heavy stream of water, soft washing utilizes chemicals. This makes it better suited for siding, fabrics, walkways, decks, and other areas that you have to be concerned about color damage or chipping. It’s the safest option for your home.
- Make the Safe Choice. Call JDog Carpet Cleaning & Floor Care. We know the safest way to take care of your outdoor spaces is to use soft washing. We are a team of Veterans and Military family members who are here to serve you with Respect, Integrity, and Trust—the same values we lived by during our time serving our country.
