How to Bring Your Living Room Back to Life

7 Tips for a Refresh

A living room is meant to be lived in. But sometimes all that living can take a toll on the floor and furniture. Treat your space to an upgrade with these tips to refresh your living room.

How to Refresh Your Living Room

While you’re decorating for the holidays or getting ready to welcome guests, consider some effective ways to revitalize the space:

  1. Declutter. Between holiday decor and gift-giving activities, your living room may soon be the drop-off point for new stuff. Clear out the items you no longer use and organize the rest in baskets and other decorative storage solutions.
  2. Rearrange the Furniture. You may already be doing this to accommodate larger decor and more people, but consider it a way to layout the room to create a new flow or focal point. Angle furniture in a way that allows for more conversation.
  3. Add Color. Another way to let holiday decor inspire a new room design is to play with color in the rugs, pillows, and curtains. Think about adding an accent wall with a bold shade or wallpaper.
  4. Update Lighting. This is something else you may be adding to the room this season, but keep it illuminated well after the holiday by layering lamps on the table, floor, and walls.
  5. Incorporate Nature. Even though it’s cold outside, you can warm it up indoors with fresh flowers and plants to help purify the air. Even using elements like wood or rattan adds a more eco-friendly touch. If you’re putting a tree up now, you’re sure to have space for a potted plant later.
  6. Refresh Textiles. Throw a new blanket on the couch for a cozier spot. Swap out a pillow cover for festive flair. Update an area rug to create a comfy zone, and do so with a fun new texture or pattern.
  7. Add Art. Tis the season to get crafty. Create a gallery wall of family photos or display scrapbooks and other decor from your travels. Think about incorporating a statement piece for your new focal point.

While the end of the year may be a busy time, you should also take time to relax. Let holiday decorating double as inspiration for refreshing your space, so once the new year arrives your room will be revitalized and you can sit back and enjoy.
